Death of man found near Heathcote River not suspicious

The death of a man who was found near the Heathcote River in Christchurch on Friday is not being considered suspicious by police.

A post examination of Woolston man Jeff de Moulin, 41, was performed yesterday afternoon.

Detective senior sergeant Brian Archer said preliminary findings did not indicate any suspicious circumstances.

A man Mr de Moulin and his partner were drinking with on Thursday night had also been interviewed by police.

"As a result of these enquiries we are now satisfied that there is no indication of any suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr de Moulin's death," Mr Archer said.

"The death has now been referred to the Coroner, who will make a determination as to the cause of death."

The scene in Woolston had been released and the investigation was being scaled down, he said.
