The Pasifika festival began in 1992 and has become the largest Pacific festival in the world. 10 villages, over 200 food & craft stalls and with over 1500 performers to entertain, Event producer Stan Wofgramm believes its our Pacific identity which we can all relate to, which draws people to the festival every year.
This years festival has expanded to two days with a church service to begin Sunday's festivities.
A combined church service was held at the Pasifika Festival in Auckland this morning.
The gathering at 9.00am celebrated the fellowship and spiritual values of the Pacific people.
Pasifika is one of Auckland's longest-running major events.
It attracts tens of thousands of people each year to Western Springs Lakeside Parkto experience Pacific music, dance, arts, performance and food.
It transforms Western Springs into villages representing the island nations of Aotearoa, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, Tokelau and Tuvalu.
