A 10-year-old schoolboy is in the emergency department at Christchurch Hospital after being knocked over by a car this afternoon.

The Ilam School pupil was crossing Riccarton Rd on a scooter when he was hit by a late model BMW about 3.10pm.

His injuries are unknown.

The driver of the BMW, described as an Asian male, assisted at the scene but did not leave details.

Constable Dom Robinson of the Christchurch Crash Unit says police want the driver to come forward, and are seeking witnesses.
