One dead in Christchurch house fire

One person has been found dead after a house fire in Christchurch this morning.

Firefighters arrived shortly before 5am to find the house on Ruskin St, Addington, well ablaze.

One person was found dead but their age and gender was yet to be established, Fire Service southern communications shift manager Karl Patterson said.

It was not yet known if anyone else had been in the house.

Police and fire safety officers were investigating the cause of the blaze this morning.
