A 4.1 magnitude aftershock has struck the Christchurch region overnight, GNS Science reports.
The earthquake struck at 2.27am and was centred within 5km of Diamond Harbour at a depth of 10km.
It was followed by a magnitude 3.6 tremor at 2.30am, also centred within 5km of Diamond Harbour, at a depth of 9km.
