This morning, a Wellington woman was killed by a bus she was trying to catch in Porirua.
Police said she was chasing after the bus trying to get the attention of the driver when she tripped and fell under the vehicle which was packed with passengers.
Porirua police Sergeant Ron Walker said the woman died at the scene.
Her name has not yet been released.
Police this afternoon named a motorcyclist killed when he crashed into a bridge on State Highway 6 at Coal Creek near Greymouth yesterday.
He was Matthew Edward Carpinter, 31, of Kaiapoi, Canterbury.
Emergency services arrived at the scene about 5.10pm to find him dead.
Police said that Mr Carpinter was riding with a group on State Highway 6 when he lost control of his Ducati motorcycle.
Inquiries were continuing but excessive speed was a possible contributing factor.
Two women killed in a head on smash on SH1 at Fivee Mile Bay near Taupo on Saturday have still not been named.
Police said a 79-year-old woman's car crossed the centre line and smashed into a 4WD killing the 53-year-old woman passenger.
The elderly female driver died at the scene, while her victim died shortly after at Taupo Hospital.
Nelson police have named the teenager killed yesterday when a 4WD rolled off the Maungatapu Track in Nelson's Maitai Valley, into a river as Tod Woodman, 16, of Richmond.
Two others in the vehicle were injured. Emergency services were alerted to the crash at 5.40pm by one of the vehicle's occupants, who ran from the scene to get help.
New Zealand Transport Agency Auckland media manager Ewart Barnsley said tonight both Northern and Southern Motorways in Auckland were experiencing heavy traffic as people returned from their holidays.
A long, slow-moving line of traffic had backed up on SH2 from the Bombay Hills to Maramarua, he said.
He advised motorists to drive with care and patience, due to wet weather around Auckland.
