A picture of a fresh-faced boy covered up nicely for a winter's day has won this year's Olympus Auckland Photo Day competition.
Malcolm McNeill's winning shot - titled Te Henga, after the West Auckland beach at which the photo was taken - was this week judged the best image outof around 1100 entries received.
The annual competition, held this year on June 6, challenged photographers to capture the City of Sails in a single shot on that day.
Mr McNeill's winning shot was praised by the judges for being a natural and positive image which showed true affection.
Mr McNeill receives an Olympus E-520 DSLR digital camera and will be among the top 30 entries to have their photos turned into postage stamps by NZ Post.
Second prize went to Steve Lawton, of Mangere Bridge, for Wave Goodbye to Daddy, and third prize went to Breen Porter, of Takapuna, for Train Waiting.
