KEY POINTS:
One person is dead after a car crash in the Hutt Valley, north of Wellington tonight.
The car collided with a power pole on the corner of Eastern Hutt Road and Reynolds Bach Drive between Silverstream and Stokes Valley just after 7pm, Wellington police communications shift commander Marc Clausen said.
"There is one deceased and one in a very serious condition," he said.
Mr Clausen said the road had been closed and a detour was in place on State Highway 2.
