Light Festival postponed
The mid-winter Light Festival which was to have taken place at Oromahoe School this evening has been postponed until next Saturday, July 1, in the hope of getting better weather for the outdoor fundraiser. The festival will run from 4pm-8pm and will feature a lantern trail, kapa haka, live music, kai and more. Oromahoe School is on State Highway 10 between Kerikeri and Pakaraka.
Hui venue changes
The two-day Te Hīnātore - Light of Hope hui has changed to a new venue, Kareponia Marae in Awanui. The hui aims to improve local resilience against suicides of youth and other people and is open to all community members, whanau and groups. It is led by the RAID Movement and commissioned by Northland District Health Board. Guest speakers include Dr Hinemoa Elder. Powhiri at 10am this morning, accommodation and kai available.
Goats on the run
A family of three domestic goats have escaped their paddock and been seen within the Mt Manaia reserve at Whangarei Heads. Department of Conservation is asking for help to find the goats. Anyone who sees the two black and one white goat should call 0800 DOC HOT with location details. People should not approach the goats.
Digital artworks
Next week Northland artist Maggie Chen will exhibit five digital artworks in Halo in the Tunnel, at the Quarry Gardens, Whangarei. The artwork features floating dots on iPads. Ms Chen said the idea is to "heal" the audience, to think about the balancing power of nature, and come away feeling happy. Ms Chen is a third-year art student at NorthTec who moved from Guangzhou, China, to Whangarei to study art. The exhibition is on Monday 1pm-4pm and Wednesday 10am-1pm.
Annual Plan meeting
The multi-document draft Annual Plan is to be received and likely to be adopted at a special Northland Regional Council meeting next Tuesday. Up for adoption after the draft and submissions process are the Charging Policy; Rates for the Year July 1 to June 30; Regional Marine Pathway Management Plan 2017-2027; Confirmation and Making of the Northland Regional Navigation Safety Bylaw 2017; Amended Draft Kai Iwi Lakes Navigation Safety Bylaw 2017 and Statement of Proposal. The meeting will be at the council's Water St, Whangarei, office on Tuesday, starting at 9.30am.
