Northland was the hottest place to be as the mercury hit 29.9C at Marsden Point and drove hundreds to beaches across the region yesterday.
MetService said maximum temperatures around Northland should be above 20C at least until mid-next week with occasional showers predicted for tomorrow.
The temperature for today is predicted to reach 28C in Whangarei Airport and at Marsden Point.
At 2pm yesterday, Marsden Point at 29.9C was the hottest place in New Zealand, followed by Whangarei Airport at 29.5C.
Kaikohe recorded 24.8C, Kaitaia 23.6C and Dargaville 24C.
