Driver charged
A driver who crashed into the back of a security company car was more than 2.5 times over the alcohol limit and had children in the vehicle. The crash occurred about 8pm on Sunday on Waipapa Rd as the security car was turning into the driveway at the Culinary Institute of New Zealand. Kerikeri police Sergeant Ross Laurie said the driver blew a breath alcohol level of 689 micrograms per litre of breath. The legal limit is 250mcg. He was charged with driving with excess breath alcohol and with driving while disqualified.
Rap group wins
A rap group who were one of two Northland acts in a hip hop competition won best group. Lenny Walters, aka Freeks the Amateur, and Norty North Movement both performed at the Def Jam NZ Showcase in Wellington on Saturday in front of Brian "B Way" Cunningham, a talent scout for record label Def Jam. Lenny did not place but said he gave it his heart. Norty North Movement won best group.
