The ancient art of paper-making has had a new lease of life in Whangarei for the past 25 years and, to celebrate that milestone, the Paper Mill is taking its craft to the public.
All this week, from 9am to 2.30pm, paper-makers from the workshop and business have been demonstrating their skills at Forum North and inviting people to have a go. It is also hosting an exhibition of the art and products made at the Mill.
"The idea of the exhibition and free demonstrations is to showcase to the community what the Paper Mill has to offer, and to raise awareness," business director Juanita Cleaver said.
There are 14 full and part-time paper-makers working rosters during the week that celebrates the Mill's 25th year in operation.
Rhonda Rutherford-Dunn started the Mill, which continues to be an education centre, recycling, conservation and creative centre where workers earn admiration and respect for their abilities, Ms Cleaver says.
