Reader V Francis writes in with a proposal for a record-breaking tourist attraction in Northland:
The impression I have is that the people of Whangarei would like to have something to draw tourists to Whangarei.
Among the assets Whangarei has are several high hills, Parahaki at 259m above sea level and Hurupaki in Kamo at 349m above sea level. My suggestion is a ferris wheel on one of these. The highest ferris wheel in the world is 246m above sea level. So a ferris wheel on one of these would be the highest ferris wheel in the world .
A gondola-type lift to the ferris wheel and the wheel itself.
If you are interested google London Eye. There are five pages of information and photos to print out which are interesting and informative.
Of course there would be telescopes to see even further on top of the hill and the usual cafe and information centre.
What do you think? Would a ferris wheel set us apart? Or can you think of another idea which would put us on the map? Comment below.
