Advocate wins

The Northern Advocate is New Zealand's best regional newspaper.

The Advocate last night took out the Best Newspaper category (under 30,000 circulation) at the national newspaper media awards - The Canons - in Auckland.

Earlier this year, the paper had won Best Regional APN Paper.

Editor Craig Cooper said the award was not just good news for the Advocate but for Northland.

"I'm delighted because it not only represents the talents of our staff, but it reflects well on Northland.

"We won this award because we have demonstrated innovation, passion and personality.

"Those qualities are vital if Northland is going to take advantage of the opportunities the region presents in the future. The Advocate is an award-winning Northland business and we're damn proud of that, and the staff that have got us there."
