An internet fault reported on ihug's website as a ``routing error'' affecting ``all 0867 numbers nationwide'' was confined to ihug customers, says Telecom New Zealand.
On Saturday, April 15, an ihug ``message of the day'' reported that access had been restored about 8:30 am, having been down nationwide since 7:30 am.
Telecom spokesman Glen Sowry said a technician was working on the intelligent network configuration while investigating a reported fault that Saturday morning.
``While doing this work, the technician accidentally deleted the record for the 0867 number used by ihug.
``As a result, ihug customers were unable to connect to ihug using the 0867 number between 7.30 am and 8.20 am on Saturday. This unfortunate situation was purely human error.''
Mr Sowry said ihug was the only provider affected.
He was unsure why two Freenet users had complained of difficulties logging in that day as Telecom was unable to find problems with Freenet's access.
