Blue Star played down speculation yesterday that it had been sold to US forest products group Boisie Cascade.
Reports out of the US suggested that the Auckland-based company had been sold by its parent, US Office Products, which is undergoing major restructuring.
However, Blue Star's finance director, Maurice Kidd, saidno deal had been done.
He declined to comment on the possibility that talks might be taking place between USOP and Boisie or any other party. But anything could happen, he said, noting that USOP was going through a review of all its assets.
Blue Star - whose assets include bookseller Whitcoulls and printer McCollams - was built up by Auckland entrepreneur Eric Watson in the 1990s. It was sold to US Office Products in 1996.
