The Lord of the Rings shoot will be officially one year old on Wednesday. Among the recent cast arrivals and departures (according to E-online) are: Liv Tyler (elf princess Arwen) is back after holidaying in Britain, Aussie actors John Noble (Gondorian King Denethor) and David Wenham (Diver Dan in telly's Sea Change playing Denethor's son Faramir) start this month, while Sean Bean (as Boromir) has finished his scenes and Sir Ian McKellen is now out of his black garb and playing reborn wizard Gandalf the White.
SINGING IN KEY
The stuff they send you to get you excited, huh? We're quite addicted to promotional items at the TimeOut office, so when a package from Ricky Martin's people arrived we could hardly contain ourselves. Inside was a Ricky Martin musical keychain, which, when you press the button, plays all of Livin' La Vida Loca from its little speaker. The part we liked best, however, was on the packaging where it says: "Warning: Choking Hazard" — which could be open to all sorts of interpretations. The best we thought of was: "If you play that thing one more time, I'll strangle you."
GOOD GOLLY, IT'S POLLY
News is already leaking out about acts for next year's Big Day Out. It seems that English singer-songwriter P. J. (Polly) Harvey — if you're none the wiser, think the female Nick Cave — has announced she's confirmed for the Australasian alt-rock and dance festival tour which starts in Auckland on Friday, January 19. Another likelihood for the bill is mega-selling American rap-metal band Limp Bizkit.
HE'LL BE BACK
Frequent-flier Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis is back in Mexico shooting another movie, this time an action picture with the man they call Ah-Nuld. He's been cast in the Schwarzenegger movie Collateral Damage directed by Andrew Davis (The Fugitive), but it's not clear what his role is — or whether he's a goodie or a baddie. Curtis was in Mexico earlier this year playing drug dealer Pablo Escobar in Blow alongside Johnny Depp.
