What's it really like to have sex for a living?
For the professional escorts and "sugar babies" who shared their experiences in a recent Reddit thread, the answer ranged from "best sex I've ever had" to sad and traumatising.
In response to a NSFW post asking what the biggest difference was between shacking up with a romantic partner, and doing it for money - and what, if any, similarities there were - a diverse range of Redditers detailed their exploits.
"The biggest difference is the amount of drugs everyone is on, at least in my experience," one insider said.
Having to pretend to enjoy sex with a stranger was the main variant for one sex worker, who wrote that clients tended to be more daring than her real-life partners.
"The biggest difference is that you have to always enjoy the sex when you are getting paid," she wrote. "Like 'yes that feels amazing licking my armpit'."
That said, she confessed, "some of the sex I have with my clients is better then having sex with my ex, and I'm getting paid on top of it".
'I WISH I HAD NEVER DONE IT'
One former sex worker was regretful of her time in industry, saying it had left her with emotional scars.
"The biggest difference is whether or not I can relax," she wrote. "My boyfriend would never try to gag me or switch holes or pinch me, but the men who would pay me didn't care."
She said there were moments during sex with her partner that she would be reminded of bad experiences as a working girl, which caused her to "get really anxious and panicky like I did with the guys who paid me".
"I cry so much and he always says he doesn't mind but I feel guilty for it," the woman wrote. "I wish I had never done it. I don't know why I ever said it was easy money, it f****d me up pretty bad."
FANTASY VS REAL LIFE
A professional escort who had been in the game for "a number of years now" said clients paid for a pre-negotiated "experience", while her boyfriend got the "unfiltered version".
"I sometimes orgasm with them and the sex can be enjoyable but it doesn't have to be; not that the client would ever know," she wrote.
"It's about their fantasy and their pleasure and what I think of whatever's going down doesn't really matter.
"No client of mine has ever seen me without make up, I never sleep (as in actually sleep) with a client and I don't ever drop whatever facade it is they're paying for."
'MORE THAN JUST SEX'
A sugar daddy who sleeps with younger men wrote that his financial arrangement was about more than sex, describing his sugar baby as "almost my best friend".
"I'm interested in my SB getting what he wants in his life from career, to activities, to lifestyle, and even to his vanilla (outside) relationships, which happen to be mostly with girls," the man wrote.
"Being older than him, I don't have the same sex drive as a younger man. We often will just relax and talk at my hotel when I am in town, with no sex at all. Maybe we'll go to an art show, or listen to a local band at a small venue, or just walk and talk. Sex is an important part of our relationship, but not the only one."
'I FELT DESIRED'
On the other side of the coin, a male sugar baby said the best thing about sex with his sugar daddy was that "he made me feel like I was something special".
"People my own age tend to play it cool and act uninterested, but sex with him was very passionate and very quick, and I always walked away feeling very desired," the young man wrote. "There was no shame involved in it at all, from my end."
'BEST I'VE EVER HAD'
A young writer who'd signed up for a sugar daddy website for "research" purposes revealed how she got "sucked in" to the lifestyle, striking it lucky with the third guy she hooked up with.
"He was 24 years older than me, not bad looking but not mind blowingly hot, and sort of soft the way middle aged men get," she wrote.
"I was pretty apprehensive about whether it was going to be another no go. I was so wrong. Best sex I've ever had, hands down, and definitely taught me some kinks I didn't know I had."
She said the relationship was bordering on love, with "a lot of affection between us", and lasted until she met the man she ended up marrying.
