It may not be the first thing that comes to mind for most pregnant women heading into labour, but for one Kiwi mum twerking was the answer to getting through contractions.

Amber Renee Murphy took on The Baby Momma Dance - a sequence made famous by American musician Cameron J - while attached to an IV drip at Waikato Hospital.

Dressed in a striped t'shirt dress, Murphy, who studied performance and song-writing at Wintec according to her Facebook profile, can be seen twerking her way around the hospital room.

Since uploading the video to Facebook on December 27, the clip has been viewed 15 million times.

Facebook users praised her smooth moves, with one commenting: "She's better than most girls that aren't pregnant."
