Skateboarding used to be banned in many schools, but Auckland children are now enjoying what appears to be a school holidays exception.
Simon Thorp, with others from the Traffik skateboarding team, is hosting a learn-to-skate programme at schools around the city.

* Watch the beautiful movement of the giraffe or see zebras or rhinos quietly grazing at the Auckland Zoo.
Daily keeper encounters allow parents and children to come eye-to-eye with native and exotic animals.

* Climb trees and attempt the eight trails of an enormous forest.
Tree Adventures is situated at Auckland's Woodhill Forest. Some height and age restrictions apply for specific activities.

Karaka and Tasman riding schools are good for children with or without riding experience, from age 5.
