A 44-year-old Christchurch woman has died after contracting H1N1 influenza or swine flu.
Canterbury Medical Officer of Health Ramon Pink said the woman, who had an underlying health condition, died last night in Christchurch Hospital's intensive care unit.
The woman's death has been referred to the coroner.
It is believed to be the country's third death linked to swine flu this year.
