Search and rescue teams have been called to help police find a missing French tourist.
A car which Pierre Paludet, 32, has been travelling in was found in a car park near Haumoana Beach on Friday. He was last seen at the blue car on Friday morning.
Local residents contacted police about the car which had been left in the car park for a number of days, with police visiting the scene yesterday.
A police spokeswoman said at this stage police were just considering Mr Paludet as a missing person, however search and rescue teams had been called to assist.
The Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter was called out to Haumoana earlier this afternoon.
General Manager Ian Wilmot said they had been called by police to assist in the search for the missing tourist. He was not sure if the search was focused on the water, or both land and sea.
Hawke's Bay Today understands the coastguard has also been called to assist in the search.
Police are would like to hear from anyone who has information on his whereabouts or might have seen him lately.
