It was good and bad news for the handful of Hawke's Bay MPs as New Zealand First leader Winston Peters announced a Labour-led government last night.
Napier's re-elected Labour MP Stuart Nash said he was "rapt" for Labour leader Jacinda Ardern and everyone who had supported the party throughout the election campaign.
"I think it's absolutely fantastic. Jacinda took the party from mere oblivion to government in the space of three months. It's astounding so I can't wait to see what it all means, get down there [to Wellington] and get into it."
National MP for Tukituki Lawrence Yule said the decision did not fundamentally change what he wanted to achieve for the people of Tukituki.
"I have a philosophical view that we have a democratic process, this is what the election has delivered. I come back to why I stood and why I stood was to do the best I could to advance the lives of the people in Tukituki and I remain committed to doing that."
