Mr Green admitted the photo was taken last year and maybe he didn't look quite like that any more but was keen to get back into shape.
"I need to prove my brothers - who have said I have no hope of making the top 10 - wrong."
"Wouldn't it be a nice story for the kids 21st that their dad was once one of the top 10 hunkiest radio DJs in the country and it would also give me bragging rights over the wife."
Mr Green said they were starting the eight week lifestyle challenge soon on the show so he was already eating a bit healthier and embarking on some exercise.
"I guess this competition just gives me an added incentive."
He wasn't sure who his fellow competitors were but said Mike Hosking had called himself the "thinking woman's crumpet", so he could be one to beat.
When asked if he had nailed the Zoolander 'Blue Steel' look he said he would have to watch it on the weekend and start practising to get some tips.
Mr Green said for something that was a bit of a laugh he has had a lot of people nominate him and was very thankful for that.
"We appreciate it here and I just want to go out and do Hawke's Bay proud."
Ms Van Der Kley said the Bay needed to show Aucklanders that there were plenty of good looking people south of the Bombay Hills.
"We are relying on the people to vote for Adam so everyone should get behind him and get him into the top 10."
