Removing roadside trees around Tararua is a no-brainer, especially as it won't cost Tararua District ratepayers.
"We've a lot of trees and woodlots on the roadside which would cost a lot of money if they were taken out in small groups," Chris Chapman, Tararua Alliance network manager said.
However, the council's forestry manager will remove woodlots around the district at no cost, although councillor Shirley Hull wants a running tab of costs and benefits.
Council chief executive Blair King said there was no money in removing half a dozen trees.
"The bill for one tree [to be removed] isn't insignificant and post-storms it's cost a lot," he said.
