Last week I reflected on the year that was and now, naturally, I'm looking ahead to what the new year will bring.
The high rate of exhibition renewal last year was important, not least to signal that we're different and things are changing - but in reality, that pace of change is unsustainable.
Now I want to ensure we have more time to think and operate in a sustained and deliberate way - still changing but with more conscious and strategic change.
I realise that exhibitions are the most obvious and visible output of museums but simply renewing our galleries constantly isn't necessarily the answer to engaging the community - and I certainly don't want to do this at the price of staff burnout!
One of the key things I want to achieve is a stronger focus on the visitor. This means really understanding what our visitors want, what they do and don't like about our offerings and how we can put this knowledge into action.
