Dannevirke's St John's Anglican Church is an ideal place for concerts, thanks to its amazing acoustics, church warden Murray Cushing says.
Today at 12.15pm, one of the first events on Dannevirke's Spring Festival calendar will be an organ recital in the church.
David Dobson has been organist and choirmaster in the Wellington region for almost 40 years and his recital today includes Felix Mendelssohn's Organ Sonata No. 2 and Paul Constant Malengreau's Pastorate from Organ Suite Op. 14.
As a Christian musician, Mr Dobson said he enjoys offering recitals for good causes.
"People may not come to hear David Dobson, but they will come to listen to music offered for a worthy cause," he said. "I try to select programmes of music which draw my audiences to the sounds available through the instrument and which may appeal through their beauty. I am not a virtuoso recitalist. I cannot dazzle with dexterity."
