The Hastings District Council's 80km/h speed zone bylaw change, which was put out for consultation again after a public outcry, has been held up for three weeks after the council failed to notify some residents the submission process had begun.
The council is seeking public comment on the effects of the contentious lower speed limits on its rural roads.
The Safe Speed Area mostly reduces the limit from 100km/h to 80km/h. It was put in place in March following a public consultation process late last year.
But the council admitted this year that the initial round of consultation, before introducing the Safe Speed Area across about 78 kilometres of roads in the district, could have been more inclusive, after members of the public claimed they hadn't been consulted.
Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule said the second round of public consultation, due to end on Monday, had been extended three weeks after a Havelock North road was left out of a letterbox drop.
