Roaming swans are being blamed for chaos on State Highway 2 yesterday after a truck clipped a car that had slowed to avoid hitting the birds.
Police said the truck was the last vehicle in a line of traffic .
"He swerved to avoid the car in front of him that had slowed right down, but he nicked the back of it and ended up in the ditch," a police spokesman said.
Traffic units and an ambulance attended the incident about 12.30pm, near the Pekapeka wetlands reserve.
The northbound lane was blocked for more than an hour while the truck was removed.
