A Hamilton mum decided to make the most of her recent Pacific island cruise by giving back to the cyclone affected Vanuatu.
Sarah Moran and friend Jillaine Haworth took two boxes and six bags worth of school supplies to Sorovanga School in Black Sands, just outside of the main town of Port Vila.
"My best friend and I had been thinking about going on a cruise for about 10 years and we finally got around to it and we thought it would be a neat thing to do. It grew from taking a few things over to taking six canvas bags and two boxes.
"I opened the box just of the exercise books. There were about 64 books and eight value packs, we could see their eyes well up. We were all crying. It was quite emotional, it was definitely the highlight for us, it was unreal."
The boxes contained exercises books, pens, pencils, and library books, including supplies donated by Hukanui School where Sarah's two boys Arie, 5, and Ethan, 7, attend.
