Four Hamilton families have recently returned from Mexico having built two homes in two weeks as part of Homes of Hope.
The programme is run by Youth With A Mission (YWAM), a service-based organisation in Mexico and world wide which builds homes for families who are in need of shelter and earn less that US$100 a week.
Four families made the trip to Mazatlan and raised $28,000 which covered the cost of building the two houses and furnishing them with the basics such as a bed, food and toiletries, linen, stove, table and chair, and a shelf for the kitchen.
The families involved were Darren and Angela Bowler, with their three children; Jonathan and Shelley Hall and their four children; Phil and Kathy Strong and their two children; and Ross and Julie Brown and their five children.
Each house took three days to build in 34-40 degree heat and 100 per cent humidity.
