Te Runanga o Kirikiriroa's Enderley housing development should see an increase in jobs in the area as the 62 houses are built, says CEO Mere Balzer.
The project still has a way to go, but meetings with the community have been held on a monthly basis.
"That meeting with the community is as much about community resilience and supporting the wider community to look at what it is they require for their community to drive initiatives for themselves and then keeping them informed about the project.
"It is also about looking at potential employment opportunities as a result of the build," Ms Balzer said.
She said they are disappointed there was not more consideration in the government's budget for affordable housing.
