DVD Review: Friends with kids (+trailer)

We've had Friends and Friends with Benefits.

Now we look at Friends with Kids.

At a time when many women are choosing to put motherhood on hold to pursue a career, Friends with Kids explores a different approach to parenthood.

Jason (Adam Scott) and Julie (Jennifer Westfeldt) have been best friends for as long as they can remember.

As they readily concede, they know everything about each other - but there's never been a physical attraction between them.

With her biological clock ticking and no appropriate suitor in sight, Julie suggests she and Jason raise a child together ... as friends.

Looking on with concern are the other members of their tight friendship group - couples Leslie (Maya Rudolph) and Alex (Chris O'Dowd) and Ben (Jon Hamm) and Missy (Kristen Wiig).

They see their lives and their marriages as more suitable vehicles to raise a family.

Friends with Kids explores the whole marriage and family experience.

Jason and Julie seem to be able to raise their child without some of the pitfalls their couple friends are going through.

They have nailed a way of staying close without disrupting their outside lives.

That is what they think, anyway.

With time comes the realisation that there is more to their situation than they imagine and some big decisions need to be made.
