Snug cottages with rustic looks are a specialty of Deane Bradley and his father, Terry, of Bradley Builders of Kamo, second place getters in the under $130,000 category for a home they built for Mrs Joyce Hepple of Whangarei.
"I used to drive past the Bradley's yard and saw their display cottage," the retired woman says.
"I investigated, liked the feel of it and liked the people. That's why I got them to build for me," she says. "It has come out just as I wanted."
The Bradleys usually pre-build the cottages at their yard and transport them. However for Mrs Hepple's job the cottage was pre-cut then assembled on site because of difficulties with access to her right-of-way section.
The company has a number of standard designs but will also work off a client's specific plans.
The cottages are clad in bandsawn finish Texture 2000 which can be painted, stained or left to weather. Mrs Hepple's home has been stained.
The land is extra.
Third placegetter was The House Company (Whangarei) Ltd, also for a home in that city.
