This year marks Radio Hauraki's 50th birthday, and to celebrate they went on a quest to find the greatest song they ever played.

They got their listeners to tell them what they thought their greatest hit was from their 50-year history, playing out the top 550 songs over the course of six days.

Today, the station finished up with the top 100 with a list full of classics. The top song?

Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Close by in the top 20 were hits like Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes, Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N' Roses, Purple Rain by Prince, and Creep by Radiohead.

And right on the heels of Nirvana was Led Zeppelin's ever-popular Stairway to Heaven.
