Playboy model Katie May has died in Los Angeles.

The social media star, 34, was in a critical condition following a stroke earlier this week, but was taken off life support on Thursday evening, TMZ reports.

It is believed the model had a blockage in her carotid artery, which led to the stroke.

The mother-of-one died in Los Angeles surrounded by family and loved ones, according to reports from TMZ.

A funding campaign has been launched asking the public to donate money to help support the model's 7-year-old daughter.

"Anyone who was lucky enough to know Katie May was truly blessed by her incredible heart, mind and soul," the funding page said.

"She was an inspiration and a guiding light to so many people in this world.

"We want to raise as much money for her daughter's living trust as possible to ensure she will always be taken care of.

"Her daughter was Katie's whole life, so please help Katie and her family by donating money."
