Womad Q&A: Delaney Davidson

A few quick questions with Lyttelton's best known gothic country troubadour Delaney Davidson.

Any interesting, valuable or just plain strange musical memorabilia at home?

I dug up the shin bone of my uncle and made a flute out of it. Mum found it and took it off me, but I took it back again when I was looking through all the old teeth she kept from when we were young - she used to drop them through a hole in the floor, so it was under the house with the teeth. He was a great uncle and used to teach me music, so I didn't think he would mind. He gave me a big red guitar too.

Do you have any upcoming releases before March 2014?

Sad But True Volume 3, the third part in the country homage I am doing with Marlon Williams, and I am also releasing a solo album on Outside Inside Records from Italy called Swim Down Low. I also expect to have about four videos out by then, and I'm looking to release a split single with You're A Loser on one side and I'm So Depressed on the other. They will be both B Sides. I made videos for them recently in USA. One in Mt Salvation in the Californian desert and one in Colorado Mountains.

Are you currently working on anything else?

I just produced Tami Neilson's latest album, which I am really proud of and think is a great piece of work and brings a fine pool of talent together. I also built a tree hut with my godson! And I'm hoping to tour Europe and USA again in 2014.
