He's only just left the country, but a return visit by crooner Ed Sheeran has been confirmed for 2013.

Sheeran played the Aotea Centre on Sunday night to rave reviews, and the British singer-songwriter will be back next year for two much larger shows.

Sheeran will play Wellington's TSB Arena on March 8, and Auckland's Vector Arena on March 9.

Of his Auckland show, reviewer Lydia Jenkin called Sheeran an "everyman" with "a laddish English accent that makes the girls swoon, and a talent for writing upbeat songs that somehow combine folk, hip hop, reggae and pop".

A pre-sale begins on August 6 here, and tickets go on general release on August 9.
