Pete Doherty has been thrown out of rehab for disrupting the other patients' treatment.

The Libertines rocker booked himself into secluded jungle clinic The Cabin, in Chiang Mai, three weeks ago in an attempt to finally kick his addictions to heroin and crack cocaine.

But the musician - who was previously in a relationship with Kate Moss - was having such a negative effect on the other people in the Far East facility counsellors forced him to leave halfway through his treatment course.

Programme director Alastair Mordey - a former addict himself - said: "Pete was discharged today for therapeutic reasons.

"It is important to maintain the integrity of the treatment programme for the other clients to have a good chance of recovery. Pete understands this and therefore the reasons behind why we have asked him to leave.

"Although our parting with Pete is amicable, we are of course disappointed to see him leave. We hope some of the things he has learnt here will help him in the future and look forward to the day when Pete decides to consider recovery again."

After flying into Bangkok, Doherty is now believed to be preparing to travel back to Heathrow and he is expected to land at the London airport.

Although the 33-year-old songwriter - who was escorted to rehab by his manager Andy Boyd - initially responded well to his £7200-a-month treatment, which included yoga and outdoor activities such as elephant trekking, his behaviour and attitude to the course rapidly deteriorated in the last few days.

It had been hoped the latest attempt to get Doherty clean would rid him of his drug demons once and for all.

The Can't Stand Me Now singer has a long-standing history of addiction and has been to rehab numerous times, checking into a clinic in Thailand in 2003, rehab in north London's Southgate area in 2006 and Clouds House rehab centre in Wiltshire in 2007.

The troubled star has also been in jail numerous times and was most recently sentenced to six months in prison for possessing cocaine in May 2011.
