A short film from Berlin has taken top honours at a short film festival for students.
The winners of Unitec's Uni Shorts International Student Film Festival were announced last weekend, with Berlin entry Wie Ein Fremder (Stranger at Home) taking out gongs for Best International Film, Best Performance Award and joint People's Choice Award along with Dust Off, from Estonia.
If We Are to be Eaten by Wolves won the Best New Zealand Film title.
Judges called Wolves "a gentle, reflective, character-driven drama that captured in a simple yet moving way an aspect of the New Zealand experience during World War II".
Stranger at Home was described as a "very impressive piece".
"It brought together all the key elements of a moving and thought-provoking cinematic experience and it was very exciting to see this strong and distinctive vision in a student work."
Directors for each of the films receive $1000 in prize money.
Entries for an expanded 2013 festival will be called for in May.
