One in five Kiwis still need to make the transition to digital television.
The transition from analogue to digital TV begins on September 30 this year in Hawke's Bay and the South Island's West Coast.
The rest of the country will go digital in stages over 2013, with the upperNorth Island the last to make the switch on November 30 next year.
At the moment 83 per cent of New Zealanders watched digital television - an increase of 4 per cent when compared with the past quarter, Going Digital National Manager Greg Harford said.
The West Coast and the Waikato region had the highest proportion of households currently watching digital television, at 92 per cent.
