Tiki Taane has pleaded not guilty to a charge of inciting violence at a Tauranga nightclub last week.
The 34-year-old was excused from court today because of prior work commitments at a charity gig in Christchurch.
Taane was arrested after reciting the lyrics to the police protest song F*** the Police at his own gig at the super club Illuminati.
He claims a police officer took offence to the lyrics of the song during a routine check.
They took him into custody after his concert finished at 3am.
The club's DJ and promoter Patricio Alvarez-Riveros has also pleaded not guilty to charges of hindering and resisting police.
They will both appear back in the Tauranga District Court for a case review hearing at the end of May.
