Police have called Northland thieves "a pair of boneheads" after their getaway car ran out of petrol.
The thieves gained entry to a Whangarei house by throwing a brick through a window, and took a TV, homebrew and a CCTV camera.
Police said they found the robbers, whom they described
as "dumb criminals", hightailing it from their vehicle, which ran out of petrol "just down the road from the scene".
To top it all off, images from the CCTV camera proving the pair were at the scene meant their denial of the burglary "fell on deaf ears".
