It took Kel Raine 71 years to gather his massive collection of records - and now the 87-year-old is preparing to sell all 6020 LPs.
The music lover, who bought his first record in 1946, has checked each LP in preparation for a sale where the ''buyer will have to take the lot''. He wants to hand over the collection to ''a good home'' and a fellow enthusiast that will ''value them and appreciate the music".
A quarter of his garage is dedicated to the records which are stacked in an orderly fashion on six catalogued storage racks. Titles include a mix of genres, including old-time favourites like Jim Reeves, the Glen Miller Orchestra and Bing Crosby through to Anne Murray, the Scottish Pipes and soundtracks to old show movies.
Mr Raine says the 78s, 45s and 33s were all in reasonable condition.
''Some of them have had a bit of a hiding over the years but generally, they are in good nick."
So far he has fielded several calls about the records but most people wanted Elvis Presley and The Beatles- while he only had ''a bit of rock and roll.".
His wife Ann said she had also contributed to the collection and she was looking forward to creating more space.
The music will live on for the duo in a digital format as Mr Raine has his own FM radio station, Radio Carmel, that several of his neighbours at the Carmel Country Estate Retirement Village tune into.
He has about 16,000 tracks loaded on to a computer - a passion that stems from Mr Raine's past volunteer work at Village Radio where they were both announcers.
"I was there for 26 years," Mr Raine says.
