Tourism spending in the Bay of Plenty is estimated to be $1.8 billion for the year to June - up 6 per cent compared with the year to June 2016.
The latest Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates released by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) today show that of this tourism spend, international visitors spent $608 million (up 7 per cent on the year to June 2016), and domestic tourists spent $1.2b (up 5 per cent) in that period.
MBIE manager of sector trends Mark Gordon said the tourism spending was also up on last month.
"When it comes to the monthly expenditure, tourism spend in Bay of Plenty for the month of June 2017 is up 9 per cent compared with the month of June 2016."
Driven by the DHL NZ Lions Series 2017, spending by the UK market in the region was up 119 per cent to $4m for the month of June 2017, compared with June 2016.
