A Tauranga field will be transformed back to the time of knights and their maidens this weekend.
The NZ Medieval Faire kicked off at Tauranga Boys College at 12.30pm today and runs until Sunday afternoon.
Medieval re-enactors from around the North Island including Taupo and Auckland, are expected to come, decked out in full medieval garb, including armour and weaponry.
The 2017 NZ Medieval Faire spokesman Kris Wills said this year was the fourth year running for the event which aimed to take people back in history.
"The faire celebrates medieval history and the heritage of where we come from. A lot of New Zealanders hail from Europe so we are celebrating that history," he told The Bay of Plenty Times.
