Mr van Syp said compared to 2015, the agency saw growth overall of 33 per cent in 2016 - but the end of the year was "incredibly nuts".
"Towards the end of the year, it went a lot higher. We were running nearly 100 per cent more than we were same time last year. The first part of the year was similar to the year before, but the end of the year has gone incredibly nuts.
"On top of that, look at how many recruitment agencies have moved to town. The city is going crazy. Which is great."
Mr van Syp did not see this ending any time soon. He expected to become even busier as the agency would be handling a lot of the recruitment for workers on the Bayfair to Baypark overpass.
"Every person I talk to is busy. Our clients are looking very positive, we will definitely be getting busier."
Talent ID lead recruitment and human resources specialist Catherine Brown said there was no doubt the region was experiencing a clear construction boom, in both the residential and commercial sectors.
"As a consequence comes the boom of people. The more houses and commercial property that's built, the more we're seeing people move to the region."
Mrs Brown said the agency was expecting the ongoing demand from clients and candidates to continue.
"The Tauranga job market hasn't slowed too much at all over the Christmas break. We have had a number of vacancies advertised over the Christmas break and have had to make sure our office is staffed appropriately to handle the predicted workload for 2017 whilst maintaining service levels for our candidates and clients."
Mrs Brown said there had been a large influx of candidates from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, as well as increasing numbers of people moving back to New Zealand from Australia and the United Kingdom.
An observation she had made recently was that new parents were choosing to move to Tauranga as they could not live off one income in Auckland.
Stan Gregec, Tauranga Chamber of Commerce chief executive, said the increase in job listings was wonderful news for Tauranga job seekers.
"It demonstrates the strength and depth of the local economy at the moment.
"Tauranga's still on fire. We don't see this letting up anytime soon."
Mr Gregec said chamber members were looking forward to another "vintage year" in 2017.
"If you're looking to break into the Tauranga job market, there's never been a better time."
Kirsty Morrison of One21 Recruitment said 2016 was a great year for the Tauranga region with a significant increase in job vacancies being advertised across all the major job sites.
"The population has also increased due to housing and lifestyle opportunities, along with the growth of the port and some big name businesses moving to the Bay.
"One21 have been recruiting across a wide range of roles from highly technical engineers and quality personnel to more generalised positions in sales, professional services and business management and we have found the building, energy and manufacturing industries have been our busiest sectors."
She said highly qualified people wanted to move to Tauranga and she had seen demand for more positions at a senior level.
Looking for a job to support young family
Catherine Cracknell, 22, is looking for a job to help support her struggling family.
Miss Cracknell has a 6-month-old son and a partner who is unable to work, so is looking for any job she can get to earn some extra cash.
"At the moment, we're struggling being on Work and Income. I'm trying to find anything so I can have some extra money for my son."
The Te Puke woman has certificates in early childhood education and teacher aiding, and her dream job would be one where she could work with children. But she said she would take anything that came her way.
"I'd like to study to get my full early childhood qualification, but getting a job is more important than study at the moment.
"I'm looking for whatever I can get, I don't mind whether it's full time or part time, I just want some extra money because we're really struggling and I want to give my son a better future."
