Western Bay of Plenty District Council Mayor Garry Webber and the other councillors will today gather to have their first full council meeting.

Included in the items on today's agenda for the council are the adoption of the new set of standing orders or rules about how councillors will conduct themselves at meetings and how meetings would be best managed.

That includes the public forums section of council meetings.

Councillors would also adopt the council's committee structures and delegations, and ratify the appointment of chairpersons of committees, subcommittes and joint committees and chairs of community boards.

This process is a legal requirement for all new councils under Local Government Act rules.
