A 52-year-old male was swinging from a tree vine in the Kaimai Ranges in the weekend when he slipped and seriously injured his hip.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to winch the man out of the area, after the NZ Fire service had carried him out to where the helicopter could land.

He was stabilised at the scene by paramedics before being flown to Tauranga hospital for further treatment.
