A Bay man accused of stabbing a 23-year-old man in Gate Pa on Saturday evening has made a brief court appearance.

The defendant, who faced a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm when he appeared in Tauranga District Court today, was remanded in custody.

A 23-year-old man, who suffered stab wounds to his body, was moved from Tauranga Hospital's intensive care unit to a hospital ward today.

A Hospital spokesperson said the patient was in a stable condition.

The defendant, who is yet to enter a plea to the charge, is due back in court on March 4.
